Our Curriculum
Our curriculum is values-led, it supports the school vision, and it is rooted in developing an understanding of our community, our country and our world. It fosters in pupils the characteristics of effective learning and the attitudes, skills and knowledge to enable them to take their place as caring global citizens of the 21st Century.
By the time they leave the school, we want pupils to:
- understand and be committed to our school values; compassion, resilience, trust
- understand about right and wrong and about equal opportunities for all
- be aspirational, community-minded, curious, determined, independent learners
- have the knowledge and skills for future learning and employment
- be confident and resilient
- have subject-specific knowledge and skills, and understand concepts to the best of their ability, and to be able to choose and apply these effectively
- enjoy reading for pleasure
- have the knowledge and cultural capital they need to succeed in life
- understand their developing world, including how their environment and society have changed over time, and Britain’s cultural heritage
- have a positive attitude towards learning and a growth mindset
- be able to live and work co-operatively with others
- take responsibility for their own health
- make a positive contribution to society and have an understanding of global citizenship
The Governors and staff of Long Wittenham C of E Primary school recognise that all children have a right to a broad, balanced, relevant and differentiated curriculum. We aim to create a happy, educationally exciting and positive environment in which all children can develop to their full potential and become confident, independent individuals.
We aim to:
- ensure that our curriculum is responsive to all children whatever their individual need.
- promote positive attitudes and individual confidence, ensuring all children experience success.
- identify, assess, record and regularly review children’s special educational needs.
- encourage parents/guardians to be involved in planning and supporting at all stages of their child’s development.
- make effective use of support services.
