Headteacher’s message
September 2022
Welcome to Long Wittenham CofE Primary school, a happy and thriving school at the heart of the community. We hold each and every child at the centre of everything we do. The fresh teaching and leadership team has exciting plans for the future.
We are driven by our Christian vision of ‘Caring for Others and Courageously Striving for Excellence’ and our core values of Compassion, Resilience and Trust. As a Church school we are inclusive of people of any or no faith, and we work hard to ensure the school community has a strong understanding of this ethos.
We are a small school, and each child is known and respected as individuals within our personalised and nurturing school experience. We are proud of our children who are a real credit to our school and go above and beyond to support one another.
Our curriculum is broad and balanced, and whilst being rooted in the local community, we are also outward looking. Our transition provision for children coming into reception class enables children and families to get to really know the reception class staff before they join the school. From then on, we ensure our children are prepared for their next steps in education and are instilled with the values and learning behaviours they need to be active citizens in the future. Children who join us from other schools always settle quickly and make lots of friends due to the family feel of the school.
A new state of the art school facility is promised as part of the Community Development Plan, and we are currently in discussion with the developers to finalise the planning application. This building will be carbon neutral and will be unlike any other school in the area. With expansive outside space and classrooms with high ceilings and plenty of natural light it will be centred in the new community hub with close links with pre-school and the village hall.
If you are considering our school for your child, please call the school office to make an appointment to meet our staff team and see to the children at work or play. We would be happy to welcome you to our wonderful school.
