Long Wittenham’s celebration of The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee
Friday 3rd – Sunday 5th June
A message from the Village party committee:
Plans continue to develop for the village celebration to mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee on the weekend of 3rd, 4th & 5th June. As many of you will be aware, the UK is being granted an additional Bank Holiday to mark the occasion, with the late May bank holiday being moved to Thursday 2nd June 2022 and the new, additional bank holiday on Friday 3rd June.

On Friday 3rd June, Long Wittenham will host a Village Fun Dog Event, including a ‘Dog Olympics’ in the garden of The Plough at 2.30pm. We hope that many of you will enter the event which promises to be great fun!
On Saturday 4th June, The Sorelle Singers will be performing Three Little Maids – an evening of musical entertainment with a Jubilee theme – from 7.30 in St Mary’s Church in Long Wittenham. Entrance will be £15.00 on the door, including a free drink & nibbles on arrival.
On Sunday 5th June, the village will be celebrating from 1pm – 5pm, starting with a children’s parade from St Mary’s Church, marked by our newly refurbished bells ringing out! The parade will set off from the church and it is hoped that as many villagers and their friends and families will line the high street, waving flags to cheer the children on! Villagers along the High Street will be encouraged to decorate their houses and gardens along the route with a prize being awarded to the best effort.
Celebrations will continue at The Plough, where there will be maypole dancing, community singing, a swing band, traditional games, an opportunity to try out making some models with the Pendon Museum and all finishing up with a giant Village Hokey Cokey to round off the event.
Liam, Kim and Julie and their team of helpers will be providing a marquee which will display the entries to a ‘Portrait of the Queen’ competition which everyone, young and old, will be encouraged to enter. The Plough will be providing tables and chairs and villagers are also invited to bring picnic blankets or camping tables and chairs, and a picnic to the event to enjoy in the garden. In order to support our local pub, the organisers respectfully request that any alcoholic beverages are purchased from the pub itself. In addition, LW School and Pre-School will be laying on teas, coffees and ice creams for everyone to enjoy!
This event is brought to you by a wonderful team, represented by: Wittenham Warriors, LW Parish Council, LW Primary School, LW Pre-School, LW Rainbows and Brownies, The Pendon Museum, WI, Wittenham Singers, The Plough and St Mary’s Church.
Full details of all of the events will be posted on the village website: www.longwittenham.com and anybody who would like to get involved is welcomed and can do so by contacting Sally Duff – our very own Queen of Fun – on 01865 407788/07899 097 612
