New school buildings

Long Wittenham School is very pleased to announce that we are in the advanced stages of planning a brand new school site, with new, purpose built buildings and outdoor facilities as part of the village’s Community Plan.

The scheme, which includes a new village hall and housing has been the subject of extensive consultation, and we at the school have been thrilled to be part of this process, creating an exciting future for the school at the heart of this special village.

The scheme will by submitted for planning permission in the next few weeks, and although there are many factors that could affect timelines, we hope to be in the new facility in two to three years.

The community plan has been developed by Thomas Homes, who have embraced an exciting challenge of creating a vision for this village, including energy efficient carbon neutral buildings for the school and village hall. They have planned green spaces, cycle routes, and car routes with our children’s health and safety in mind.

The site is on the Didcot road on the left hand side if you are leaving the village, adjacent to the new development. The outdoor areas will look out to the fields towards the Clumps.

The current Victorian school building is going to be turned into a private home to help fund the project, and a large part for the playground is going to become a new village green focussed on the war memorial.

We look forward to sharing more about this development in due course.
