Message from the Headteacher

Throughout this term, we have been making excellent progress on our journey towards attaining a bronze Rights Respecting Schools Award. This week, staff and pupils completed questionnaires and Values Ambassadors Dani, Ella, Hannah and Tei Jai helped me to develop an action plan.

UNICEF UK works with schools to create safe and inspiring places to learn, where children are respected, their talents are nurtured and they are able to thrive. The Rights Respecting Schools Award (RRSA) embeds these values in daily school life and gives children the best chance to lead happy, healthy lives and to be responsible, active citizens.

Participating schools use the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) as a guide and the RRSA recognises a school’s achievement in putting the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child into practice within the school and beyond. I plan to submit our application this weekend, so fingers crossed!

Members of the Eco-Committee have also been busy. They have decided to focus activities this year on Biodiversity, Waste and Marine; watch this space!

On other news, pupils in Singing Club have been rehearsing songs ready for a performance in assembly on Monday, and those in Owls Class and Parrots Class have been working hard preparing their nativity. As I write this, the whole school is enjoying a well-deserved treat afternoon with a choice of activities for all including outdoor games, arts and crafts, construction and board games.

I am looking forward to seeing lots of you tomorrow at the outdoor Christmas Fair – it looks like it’s going to be a great event!

Warm regards, Gillian Seymour
