Newsletter – 13 January
Message from the Headteacher,
It has been lovely to welcome the children back to school after the Christmas break and so much has happened already. We have been delighted to welcomee Ms Rebecca Lewis, the new teacher in Parrots Class and Mrs Elaine Humphries who has joined our team as an HLTA.
Penguin’s Class and Year 4 enjoyed a trip to the Abu Bakr Islamic Centre, in Reading. We had a fantastic tour of the mosque and got to see Friday Prayers in action. The children learnt about the role of the mosque in the local community which will underpin their learning in RE this term.
Learning highlights this term:
- Owls Class have been reading The First Day of Winter. They have been conducting Science investigations about ice and have also been learning about the impact of winter on wildlife and the birds on the playground have been enjoying the bird feeder they made.
- Parrots Class have begun reading Puffin Peter and have been focusing on using conjunctions in their writing. They have been comparing length and height in maths and have also begun their new art project and enjoyed sketching birds in a range of mediums.
- Eagles Class have been researching reasons not to want to be a Roman gladiator and have learnt to locate European countries on a
map. They have also been learning about factors and arrays in maths.
• Penguin Class have begun their new book Outlaw by Michael Morpurgo, based on the story of Robin Hood. In their writing they have focused on using direct speech accurately and effectively. In maths they have been working on areas and perimeter, including compound and irregular shapes.
Homework will commence on Thursday 19th January as per the earlier email. Further guidance for Owls Class will come with their homework next week.
Have a lovely weekend,
Gillian
