Newsletter 25/6/2021

25th June, 2021

This week the children have been incredibly resilient and haven taken part in end of year assessments. We are very proud of their attitude and achievements and we look forward to sharing this in their reports.

As with normal traditions for year 6, they had a delivery of pizzas which the PTA kindly organised. Normally this marks the end of the SATS assessment week in May and they have been very patient in waiting for this treat at the end of our assessment week. Thank you to the PTA for organising this for our hard working year 6. We are looking forward to planning the other end of year 6 traditions which will follow in due course.

Covid 19 update from Chair of Governors
It is with sadness that we had to take the difficult decision to move transition for all children to a virtual format. As you will be aware through the news, Covid 19 cases are rising and scientists are contending with a new variant. Above all, we always put the children’s and staff’s safety at the forefront of all we do and our decision is in line with other schools in the area.

We are particularly proud that we are one of only a few schools in Oxfordshire who have not had any bubble closures and we believe this is due to our rigorous risk assessment, strict hygiene and bubble controls and the hard work of the school community. Thank you for your ongoing support with this.

Our new members of staff will be putting together a transition video for their classes which will be shared in school and pen portraits which will be sent home. Miss Clarke (our new reception teacher) will be contacting new parents to arrange virtual home visits and we are already planning special transition activities for the first days of the new academic year.

We will be pressing ahead with a Covid secure bubble sports day. As the government guidelines only allow up to 30 people to gather outside we are unable to invite you to watch the games. However, we will be taking short class videos and photographs which will be uploaded to class pages on Teams for you to view at home.

Our provisional date for sports day is Tuesday 13th July and children will need to attend school in their sports kit.

Staffing Update
We are pleased to announce that Miss Rhiannon Jenkins will be joining Parrots class when Miss Mason leaves at the end of September to have her baby. She is looking forward to meeting her new class properly in September.

Miss Bainbridge will be stepping into Ms Deyes shoes in Penguins class for the last few weeks of term ahead of starting her new job as a class teacher in Didcot next academic year.
