Message from the Headteacher

As you will have read in the message that went out earlier today, governors are delighted to announce the appointment of Mrs. Gillian Fraser as the new permanent head teacher here at Long Wittenham. I have had the pleasure of working with Mrs. Fraser as her current school, Stoke Row, is just down the road from my previous school, Checkendon. The two schools were in the same locality school games partnership and there was quite a strong friendly rivalry between our sports teams! I will be liaising closely with staff and governors to ensure a smooth transition and I am sure there will be opportunities for parents and pupils to meet Mrs. Fraser in the coming months.

As some of you may have noticed, I have not been in school this week as I have been incapacitated by acute back pain. Luckily, I was able to continue working from home and I am finally on the mend! I am very much looking forward to being back on site on Monday.

In other news, we’ve started preparations for the annual village Remembrance Service on 11th November, school councillors are busy putting together a fund raising event for Children in Need, Values Ambassadors are planning values activities for early December and the PTA are working hard on preparations for the Christmas market.

If you have suggestions or recommendations of local events the school could get involved with, please do get in touch!

Warm regards, Gillian Seymour

More Information

As you probably know, the numbers of Covid19 cases in the locality have been rising significantly over the last few weeks. So, it is no surprise to find that we have a case here in school. In response to advice from OCC and the NHS Business Services Authority, we have informed staff and parents and reviewed our risk assessment. At Forest School this week we enjoyed making clay creatures, finding animal tracks, cooking up feasts at the mud kitchen and used magnifying glasses to look at the detail in nature.
