Pupil Premium and PE Premium

Pupil Premium

Eligibility

The pupil premium is a grant given to schools to close the attainment gap between disadvantaged pupils and their peers, and to support pupils with parents in the armed forces (this part of it is also known as the ‘service premium’). Funds are allocated to schools for each pupil of compulsory school age who fits the eligibility criteria. There are 5 categories of eligibility, with different amounts of funding attached.

  1. Ever 6 free school meals (FSM)
  2. Pupils with no recourse to public funds (NRPF)
  3. Looked-after children (LAC)
  4. Previously-LAC
  5. Ever 6 service children

Allocation

The grant is allocated in line with the financial year, which begins in April, rather than the academic year. It is allocated based on the number of eligible pupils recorded at the school in the annual October census.

Reporting

In their reports on Pupil Premium Strategy, schools must demonstrate the evidence basis for the way they intend to spend the grant, referring to a range of sources, including the toolkit published by the Education Endowment Foundation (EEF).

Pupil Premium Strategy documents are included in the attachments at the bottom of this page.

PE Premium

Allocation

The amount of funding is based on the number of pupils in years 1 to 6, based on data from the January census.

Reporting

In their reports on Sports Premium Strategy, schools track progress across 5 key indicators. These are:

  1. The engagement of all pupils in regular physical activity. It’s recommended that all children and young people aged 5 to 18 engage in at least 60 minutes of physical activity a day, of which 30 minutes should be in school
  2. The profile of PE and sport is raised across the school as a tool for whole-school improvement
  3. Increased confidence, knowledge and skills of all staff in teaching PE and sport
  4. Broader experience of a range of sports and activities offered to all pupils
  5. Increased participation in competitive sport
