Our projects

We will be sharing ‘knowledge organisers’ for each project via email.  In these you will find all of the information and skills that we are going to learn in school.  It would be fantastic if you could help us at home too!  At the end of every week we have class quizzes to make sure our knowledge is improving all of the time.  We focus on our learning behaviours to help us by being aspirational, curious, determined, independent and community-minded in all that we do.

This year, our curriculum is following Cycle A on the long term plan.  That means our projects are:

More about Parrots

Towards the end of their time in Year 2, the children undertake End of Key Stage 1 Assessments. The results of these are reported to parents and the local authority.

Children in Year 1 will undertake the national Phonics Screening test.

Our topic this term is Scented Garden. We will start the term off by exploring what plants need to grow healthily. This topic is perfect to develop our outside area. Parrots have already prepared the soil that we have for planting flowers in the hope that we can attract some insects. If anyone can donate any soil, planters or anything that we can put to use in our garden topic it would be much appreciated.

We will be linking our English to the topic. We will start by following instructions to make ‘rainbow flowers’ and then writing our own instructions for growing plants.

In parrots class, your child reads daily. They will be listened to by an adult either during our guided reading sessions or on a 1:1 basis. Below states the importance of reading at home and some tips for revisiting a text.
